Catch in Front Pipe to Pipe Drill

Catch in Front Pipe to Pipe

Focus Points

  • The goal of the drill is to create a balanced step by saving the ball in front of your face to prevent you from turning your hips and looking to the side.
  • Change the dialogue from punch to catch. A punch more accurately describes saving the ball off-stick high. A punch to save the ball on the stick side, often results in a jab out to the side that forces the hips hips away from the shooter, which causes you to lose sight of the ball
  • Maintain an athletic stance throughout the save, taking three choppy steps, keeping the weight pushed back in your hips and butt (think sitting on bar stool) and leaning the chest forward slightly.
  • Since you are moving pipe to pipe, the tendency is to reach, lunge or jump to get to the ball. Trust your feet to remain balanced.
